Someone figured out how many people you would need to send on the 6,000+ year journey to Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our sun, in order to arrive with a genetically diverse complement that could populate an Earthlike planet there. The answer they came up with is 98, but there are different assumptions and scenarios (including the speed of the spacecraft, which could change how long the journey would take; what rules you would have as far as inbreeding; in-flight catastrophes affecting population on the mission, etc) that could change the answer. Fascinating, short reading.
